Advertising Dates
+ How does advertising work?
Common Questions
If someone outbids me, do I lose my points?
No.
If I lose the auction, do I lose my points?
No.
I bid 5000 max points and I'm the highest bidder. Why did the system take away all 5000 points?
The system reserves these points from you to prevent you from overspending points you don't have. If the last bid for your date ended up being at 3000 points and this was your bid, 2000 points will be returned to you at the end of the bidding. If someone else had beaten your bid, all 5000 points will be returned to you as soon as you are beaten.
Overview
You are able to use your karma points to bid against other users on future dates for which to advertise your link. The link can lead to your story, blog, or even business page and will be displayed in the most prominent areas of the site.
Restrictions
The advertised link must not lead to a site with harmful viruses or malware.
Titles and descriptions cannot contain curse words, inappropriate content, or any words of a sexual nature unless advertised in the Rated M section of the advertising calendar.
Urls with pages containing explicit pornographic or violent content must also be advertised in the Rated M section of the advertising calendar. Failure to restrict Rated M content to the Rated M advertising section will result in removal of the ad and forfeiture of the points.
The link and description cannot contain content that disparages FanficOverflow.
How It Works
The points below each date on the calendar indicate how much has been bid for that day. Points marked in green are bids that you are currently winning. Zero points indicate days that have not received any bids.
The minimum bid is 100 points. The max bid is the maximum amount of points you are willing to bid for that date. You will only be charged the minimum amount of points needed to beat the minimum bid, which is 10 points over the current minimum.
Example Usage
If I were to set my max bid to 200 points, the current bid for the date will be set to 100 points since that is the minimum. Other bidders will not know that I have set my maximum to 200. If someone else were to try and beat the displayed current bid and bid 110 points, my bid will automatically beat their bid and set the current bid to 120 points. This will continue until someone bids over my max bid and bids anything over 200 points. If no one had tried to beat the current bid of 100 points, I would only be charged 100 points and the remaining 100 points would be returned to me after the end of the auction for that date. This was designed to save you from unnecessarily spending karma points while at the same time, to keep you from having to constantly watch the bidding.
Do keep in mind that the system will automatically take the max bid points from you if you are the current highest bidder even if the current bid is lower than your max bid. This is to ensure that you are not bidding more than what you actually have. The difference between the max and current bids, if any, will be returned to you after the auction. Needless to say, people who do not win the auction will not be charged the karma that they have bid.
