Part I:
"The boy underneath the mask"
-
ONE
In the early 2000’s, America was starting to advance and grow as a nation. Women were finally getting acknowledged and being treated equal with men, homosexuals were finally being accepted and stopped being downgraded for their sexual preference, and there was finally peace. Unfortunately, things began changing during the late 2000’s when the republican party began expanding all over the country. Republican presidents after presidents. Democratic presidents began falling and became unpopular. Americans were displeased because criminal ratings began increasing and violence was starting to become a major issue in the state. The democratic people began protesting country to country and began starting a revolution, until the election day for the next president arrived. Many Americans had hope and faith that the next president was finally going to be democratic, but it turned out to be another republican. The new president of the United States was James Johnson.
As soon as James heard about the beginning of the revolution, he immediately took action to stop it. James sent soldiers to country after country to arrest the protestors. James Johnson eventually got rid of government, house of representatives, the three branches of government; executive, legislative and judicial, and senate. James wanted to be in control of the entire state so he forced everyone out of power. America was starting to fall apart. Homophobia began spreading all over the state; 75% of the population became homophobes and 25% of the population remained accepting.
In 2998, there was a civil war in the United States. Americans were rebelling against the president’s orders, laws, trying to overthrow James out of power, so James decided to fight back. James Johnson had bombers sent throughout the eastern side of the state to end the revolution and bombed state after state. California was the only state that remained untouched from destruction, but there were still protests in the state. James sent his military force to destroy every city in California, except Los Angeles. James wanted to carry out his power in Los Angeles. He eventually made it at the top of the list for the most hated man in the world.
In 2002, the remaining citizens in Los Angeles began protesting on Main St for a final strike, but that didn’t end well. As soon as James noticed the citizens protesting all over Main St, he ordered soldiers to attack the protestors to remind them who was in power. Ever since that day, no one has bothered to speak out anymore. Hope and peace perished away.
Three years went by when another unfortunate event marked our calendars. It became more of a custom and tradition to the city afterwards. In 2005, a group of soldiers invaded the Children's Hospital and kidnapped twenty infants. Although, out of all twenty infants only three were named before they were taken away. The three infants were identified as all males and named Jackson Kim, Noel Martinez, and Kalvin Evison. Ever since that day, soldiers would invade the Children’s hospital and take twenty infants yearly to grow their secret association known as the Assassins Association of America (AAOA).
James Johnson created this organization known as the AAOA to do his dirty work and bring fear to oppress the citizens in the city to obey his orders. James has plotted cameras all over the city to verify if his citizens were obeying or disobeying his orders. If not, James would send his assassins to assassinate the violators to maintain an ideal society.
What James wants is an ideal society where the only power there is, is his. Anyone that tried to take James down as president was sentenced to death by public. James had these orders, laws, that were to be followed or else you’d be executed.
One of James’s orders were to have an education or enlist yourself to the military. He wanted his citizens to have a successful career or job to help the community grow stronger in fields like food supplies, building constructors, technologists, or the military itself.
A second order was that females were not allowed to have any social power. Women lost the privileges to work or enlist in the military and their only roles were to do housework.
A third order was this catchphrase James started, “loyalty before love.” James wanted his men, workers, coworkers, soldiers, and citizens to be loyal to him. James wanted to grow a bond between loyalty and trust with his men so he created this catchphrase that people were forced to go by. If James felt some sort of discomfort or untrust between one of his men then he’d have him executed.
This final order was one of the most inhumane orders that became ratified and turned into an Act known as the Homosexual Act. The Homosexual act was an act having all homosexuals wiped out of human existence. Homosexuals weren’t allowed. According to the president, homosexuals were against human beliefs and they were also different, so that didn’t allow them to fit in his ideal society.
My name is Ryan Rada. I turn eighteen today. I’m the third out of four children. My sisters, Elizabeth and Christina, are older than me and my brother, Xavier Jr, who’s younger than me. We’re all one year apart except for Xavier. He’s three years apart from me. My parents took a break before they decided to have another one. I’m actually content with Xavier being a couple of years apart from me because it allows our family to have different perspectives and opinion on different things by age difference.
Our family is very united. We prefer being together than being separated, but when we do get separated we always find a way to comeback to each other. We’re like magnets. We’re not only close to one another, but we are all open minded. The reason for that is because I’m actually homosexual. Therefore, my family became accepting and open minded about it. At first, I thought it would have been awkward between me and my father or brother, but it wasn’t like that at all. Both, my father and brother, supported me fully and loved me for me.
I found out I was homosexual when I was in kindergarten. I had a crush on my teacher and it became the only reason why I liked going to school. In matter of fact, I also told my mother how much I wished he was my father, but I got lectured afterwards. My mother told me to be grateful that I even had a father and that made me think things through. Unfortunately, I grew up hating myself because I was always afraid of being discovered. Being yourself is what you fear in a society like this knowing that the Homosexual Act exists. If people were to find out that I was homosexual then I would be executed immediately.
Distancing myself from boys is an example of what I do to avoid being discovered because I know if I’d show a slight interest in them then it’ll be easily noticeable that I’m attracted to them. I also distance myself from girls so I can avoid having people to find out that I’m not interested in them. So it’s safe to say that I’m a loner. I’ve noticed that no one really approaches you if you’re a loner because everyone assumes they’re like leftovers or weird people and it’s true. It’s worked all my life. No one has actually approached me.
As soon as I was ready to head out to school, I decided to use the restroom quickly before I left. I flushed the toilet once I was done and washed my hands with a cherry scented foam soap we owned. I looked up to look at myself in the mirror and cringed a little when I saw my reflection. I hated the different part of me where I was homosexual because I couldn’t be myself; it was illegal. I stared at my brown coffee eyes and thought to myself, “Why is being different wrong?”
