Chapter two: Captivity Elryne woke up tied to a swiveling chair, she was gagged as instructed but she can at least move her legs and with each stride she makes she is able to move the swiveling chair with her. She didn’t even paid attention to the room she was kept in and continued to look for an escape, she tried to reach for the window, break it and scream her lungs out but as soon as she peered through the freezing glass her brow creased with disdain. She was looking from the fourth floor window, one of the largest suites of Levington mansion, far from the city she came from. It’s a mansion turned to a hotel, people rarely go to this place unless its summer since it is near a wide lake. Now that its winter season, the lake is frozen and dangerous. The Levington mansion is usually out of business this time of year and it is far from the main road where busy cars can notice. The perfect hiding spot for the captive. If she smashes the window and sneak out she could either die from the fall or freeze to death, and she really doesn’t want to die yet too. Her hands were tied tightly on the armrest of the chair and tried to wriggle free od the ropes in vain. She gave a heavy sigh and tried at least to spit out the gag in her mouth, she was successful on that part. She only heard silence in the room and the howling of the wind outside, “I could be alone” she thought and caught a glance of the door. She kicked her legs from the floor and the swivel chair rolled towards the wooden door, and of course it was locked. Then she realized that her hands were tied to begin with so she couldn’t turn the knob and her mouth wouldn’t be able to do so either. She kicked the door, infuriated by her situation, the noise she made alerted the other one dwelling in the mansion which is no other than her captor. Elryne heard someone come up the floor, she was about to shout help only to see the door open, and a poker faced boy met her eyes. She can fully see his features now, she drew from the comfort that it wasn’t an old pervert, however hearing his threats a few hours back already set her mind that this boy in front of her is a sociopath. She was speechless and the same time guilty at the fact that she cant tear her eyes off of his, the green orbs in his sockets gleamed. Cold, detached, but not entirely unredeemable. “ I'm hungry…” she grumbled, and of all the things to say she talked about food. “ If you are going to keep me alive then might as well feed me.” She snarked at him. Although she wasn’t lying, she was about to eat her dinner before she got kidnapped. “ Of course…” the boy crossed his arms, matching Elryne's attitude. “If you try to escape though, you wouldn’t have to worry about food when you die”. “I will die of hunger before you can slit my throat if you keep talking!” she said sarcastically and the boy threw her an icy look, she held her tongue for a second. Luca Crowe belonged to the highest paid hitmen around the globe and here he is, babysitting the hostage. He thought that his duty would be over once she gets the girl which was quite too easy, he was tasked to bring her to the mansion as this was the closest and secured place they can hide until Elias returns and decides what to do with Elryne. Although his employer hit a bit of a snag, a snow storm struck a few hours back and roads are blocked with snow, now Levington mansion is as secured as jail that he himself got trapped in. “Hello! Food please!” Elryne whined, interrupting Luca's train of thought, this is his first time handling such a hostage that talked back at him and made demands. All the others were scared and didn’t had the chance to talk back as he shot them dead as ordered. While this one, needed to be kept alive, for now at least. “ What is this all about?” Elryne asked, her eyes begged for answers. “ Let’s just say your father messed up with the wrong people” Luca answered, bringing a tray of food inside the room. “ What!?” Elryne screams in anger, she didn’t know how these people knew about her identity or her whereabouts, but the one thing she fears the most for all these years came true, which is getting involved with her father. “ I think you got the wrong daughter here…” “Oh you catch up quick!” Luca smirked, “ Well catch this one, you might be talking about your step siblings, since they are publicly known, they are heavily guarded too. So we went for the easy catch and unfortunately that is you.” Elryne glared at his blatant remark, “So what makes you think he will go for me, huh? We haven’t seen each other for years. I don’t care, he doesn’t care. Can you just let me go?” Luca almost rolled his eyes, he doesn’t like the family drama. Not that he knows the concept of family, he was born and raised as an assassin, he was never concerned of anyone bit himself and his task. “ I am not the one who decides if I should set you free or not, my employer does” Luca sits on the floor in front of Elryne, he knows that this one is quite feisty and when Elryne tried to kick him, he was able to catch her leg and have it a tight squeeze that made the girl wince. He wrapped her legs with a rope and tied them together, not minding if it was too tight that left a bruise. When he was done, he untied her right hand from the arm rest of the chair. “ You should be able to eat with one hand.” Luca pulled the trolley tray in front of her, it was enough babysitting and he wouldn’t have to spoon feed her too. “ Have you heard of a spoon and fork?” Elryne smiles at him sarcastically, “Your supposed to eat with those using two hands.” She waves her free hand at him but Luca did not gave any reaction. She stared at her food and it was just soup and bread, she frowned, she wouldn’t be filled with just that. “ Sir if you haven’t noticed, this hotel is quite grand and the food is too. If you haven’t killed the cook yet then I am sure they have canned goods or microwave food in the kitchen, which both of us can happily indulge. Kidnapping must be hard too huh?” she faked a smile. He was amused on how talkative his hostage is, he would enjoy the bickering to come to kill his boredom. “ I’m quite aware, Miss Thornton” he raises an eyebrow at her and lifted a covered plate from the second tray of the trolley. When he removed the cover, Elryne's eyes lit up. The smell of the smoky grilled, first grade steak filled her nose and enough to make her mouth water. Luca cuts a bite size and waves a fork at Elryne, he crouches down to her, his left hand holding her right wrist and his knees pinning her feet. His right hand holding the forked stake murderously but he had a mischievous smile on his lips that Elryne couldn’t decipher. She didn’t know where to look when he locked his gaze at her, Luca moves the steak near her mouth as if feeding her and when she tried to eat it, Luca moves the fork away and ate the steak instead. “Yum!” he chews happily enjoying Elryne's disappointed look. “Savage!” she hisses and Luca just gave her a chuckle. “ Your not getting any until you behave.” Luca put the plate of steak away from her as Elryne's eyes followed it. “There’s a snow storm outside, you better eat your soup before it gets cold.” He walks away from the room leaving Elryne to eat in peace, he heard his phone beeped and answered when he saw that the caller is Elias. “You got the girl?” the deep voice asked. “ Of course, you got my money?” Luca asked back and he heard a low chuckle on the other line. “ You will get your one million gran, but you will need to transfer her tomorrow. Looks like her father messed up with another group that is now trying to mess with us. Stay alert.” And the phone call ends, Luca peered at the window near him and the snow is quite thick outside and the wind howls strongly. It wouldn’t be easy to escape if someone attacks him in this condition nor to transfer a whiner of a hostage on the field of vast snow.
