The functions of chelating agents include: 
Stabilization of metal ions: Chelating agents can form stable chelates with metal ions, reducing their activity in solution 
Control of metal ions: By controlling the concentration of metal ions in the solution, chelating agents can alter the behavior of metal ions 
Removal of metal ions: In some cases, such as heavy metal poisoning, chelating agents can be used to convert toxic metals into chemically inert states so that they can be expelled from the body 
Dissolution and buffering of metal ions: Chelating agents can increase the solubility of metal ions or act as buffering agents to stabilize the pH value of the solution 
Industrial application: In industrial cleaning, chelating agents are commonly used as scale inhibitors to prevent the formation of scale
