A A A A

She settled into her bed in the corner. She lived in the countryside in her silent home for two years and not once has someone come to check on her. She lives a lonely life and doesn’t even care anymore. She knows no one will come visit her, she knows that no one cares; she knows that life is a challenge and that nobody will ever win it.

“I wish I was dead.” she muttered to herself as she shut her eyes. “What is the point of living if no one cares about anything or anyone other than themselves?” Suddenly, a knock came at her door.

She grudgingly got out of her bed and walked down the hall to the door. She opened the door slowly. “Who are you?” she asked instantly seeing a male around his early twenties.

He smiled at her. “Hello, my name is Guimin Loket.” He held his hand out for Synthinta and she shook it. “I know it’s really late and that, by the looks of it, you were getting ready to sleep but, will you let me stay here for a couple of days? All the hotels and motels are full and I have no relatives out here.”

Synthinta didn’t even care and let the poor guy in. “Come on in. I’ll show you where you will be sleeping.” Guimin smiled and nodded bringing his luggage inside. She led him through the hall and to the room right across from hers. “You’ll be staying in there, okay?”

He stepped in and was instantly awestruck. “It’s huge,” he closed his mouth and smiled at Synthinta. “Thank you for letting me stay here, uh,”

“Synthinta,” she finished off for him before walking into the hallway. “By the way, the bathroom is at the end of the hall, the kitchen is over there, the living room is to the left if you look at it like this and the other bathroom is in my room. Goodnight,” she said and closed her door.

A second later a piece of paper flew in under the door. “Goodnight, from Guimin.” She just shook her head at the paper and left it on her desk. She went back in her bed and slept peacefully. She woke up the next morning and checked on Guimin, he was still sleeping so she decided to make breakfast for the two of them.

She heard a groan come from the room and went to check on the guest. He was lifting himself off the bed and Synthinta had to struggle to not laugh. His thin and straight black hair was sticking up in every which direction and he had no shirt and his boxers were baby blue. “Morning Guimin.” she greeted the male. He flashed a smile and yawned as she left to finish setting up the table.

Guimin got ready and was out in five minutes. He sat down at the kitchen table and the two began eating. When they finished, Synthinta washed the dishes and Guimin sat in the living room where Synthinta joined him on the couch.

“So,” she started. “What are you doing here anyway? Why did you just suddenly decide to visit the country?” Guimin thought and looked back at her.

“I met this really pretty girl when I was younger and I heard she moved to the country.” ‘Well that is cheesy, but sweet.’ Synthinta thought.

“What’s her name?” Synthinta asked as she tried to get to know the male sitting beside her.

“Her last name is Rose and her first name starts with a ‘S’ and ends with an ‘A’.” Synthinta sighed and looked at him.

“I don’t know,” she said. Guimin had a smile tugged on his face. “The only person that really fits your description is me…” Guimin clapped as she figured it out. “How do you know me?”

“We were friends back at the orphanage but I guess you don’t remember.” Guimin shrugged his shoulders sadly and Synthinta patted his shoulder.

“Of course I remember Guimin.” she said and slid her arm onto the back of the couch. “There was Stacy, Holly, Collin, Justin, Christian and everyone else. But you changed. From what my memory tells me, you had brown hair and your voice was higher.”

Guimin frowned. “Even I can go through puberty, Synthinta. Also, I died my hair black. Doesn't it look nice?”

She touched his hair and rolled it around in her fingers. “Yes, but its oily. Go take a shower.” He nodded as they both got up. “I’m going to take one as well, okay?” He nodded once more.
