Tough Times

I set my suitcase in the back of the car and slammed the door shut before getting into the seat up front.

Mum turned the key in the ignition and I looked back at the house I had lived in for all my life for the last time. 

That's right.

Mum and dad were getting divorced. 

I peered at Mum before losing myself in the view outside the window.We lived near a forested area- no, make that had lived- so there were many pine trees there.It felt great to see the evergreen leaves, even during winter. Though it seemed now that...I wouldn't be able to see them as often anymore. Another part of me was gone...

Without looking at her, I asked Mum,"So...where are we going to stay?"

"I...I don't really know.It's hard to find accommodation at the last minute."

I turned back and was surprised to find a tear on her cheek as she stopped the car.

"Alexandra...do you think its tough? I mean, we've no place to stay."

"I don't really mind."

"Do you think...are you angry with me and your dad for doing this? You're still a teenager, and I know its tough for you to accept..."

"No...I mean, you two wanted it.It was your choice."

"Alexandra...I'm sorry."

We finally made eye contact and she burst out before we hugged each other, as if a hug could solve all the problems in the world.
