Ariana Grande stopped by On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Monday, the same day she officially dropped her brand new single, “Problem.”
“I’m so excited about it,” she gushed about the Iggy Azalea-assisted track when Ryan told her it’s bound to be a big hit. As for the song’s “bipolar” message of a love-hate relationship, Ariana adds, “I feel like once you get to that point, it’s either you break up or you just work it out and you stay for a while.”
But “Problem” is just one of a multitude of hot tracks on her upcoming second album.
“I did a really cool song with Chris Brown called ‘Don’t Be Gone Too Long,’ and that’s his single, so technically I’m featured on his, but it became like a duet,” Ariana explains. “We both sing the whole thing together.”
So then will it be on her album too? “I don’t know if it is or not, but it’s on his,” she adds. “It’s probably going to be on both, but I don’t know for sure yet because mine isn’t 100 percent done yet.”
Fans of Ariana’s debut album — last year’s Yours Truly, which spawned the mega hit “The Way” — are in for an even greater treat with her upcoming release.
“I’m really excited about it,” says Ariana. “I put out my first album and I really loved it and I never thought I’d be able to love a project as much, and then I made this album and I was like, ‘Yours Truly, who?’”
As for how her collaboration with Iggy came about, Ariana explains that she first met the Australian rapper when the two presented an award together in Amsterdam. “We went to a party after and we sat together for the whole party and we really clicked … and I thought she was the coolest girl. I loved her.”
But Ariana’s love for Iggy is matched only be her deep-rooted feelings for none other than Jim Carrey. The comic actor was Ariana’s first crush and she recently got to meet him (watch below), which reduced her to (happy) tears.
“You don’t understand,” she insists. “This was built up for years, like you don’t understand. My first screen name on AIM, when AIM was a thing, was JimCarreyFan42, I’m not lying … For my birthday, my mom would get me replicas of The Mask he wore in the movie. I just loved him so much.”
While Ariana was in the studio, Manny on the Streetz called in … because he recently just shot a cameo on her Nickelodeon show, Sam & Cat. “I played TSA agent Greg who yelled at Cat, Ariana’s character, because it was her first time flying first class.”
Manny’s big line? “Shut up!” … for which he apologized to Ariana.
In addition to her busy week with her brand new single, Ariana will also be performing a medley of “The Way” and “Problem” at the iHeartRadio Music Awards this Thursday.
“I’m very excited,” she gushed. “I really want to enter on a motorcycle, I don’t know if they can work that out. I really want to come through with the ’60s bad-boy vibe.”
But would she be the one to drive it, asked Ellen K. ”I would have a boy to drive the motorcycle and I would sit on the back with a lollipop,” Ariana joked.
And if all that wasn’t enough, Ryan also invited Ariana to stop by American Idol to see the Top 5 on Wednesday night. “Oh, I would love that, thank you,” she replied. “I would love to hear them sing.”
Download “Problem” on iTunes here and tune in to the iHeartRadio Music Awards on Thursday night at 8/7c on NBC.
