First Love

The reason why at our age we are so attached to our first love is because it was beautiful. Not entirely that the person we first loved was beautiful but rather the love itself. We loved innocently and passionately but still we were shy. Without any experience, guidance and stepping out of our comfort zone we are thrown into countless dreams and hopes. Not knowing the inevitable end.

The foolish and naïve dreams of going away to university together, doing everything together, being the first and the last are crushed by “It’s not you, it’s me”. Or “I’m sorry, I just want something new”.

But first love sticks with you because at that time you were careless and loved, that inexplicable feeling you’ve experienced for the first time. You’re rash in your movements. But now, you’re careful not to get hurt again.

First love is like riding a bike for the first time which usually results in a scraped knee and pain. But it’s the thrill of being able to paddle the bicycle on your own. But you fail and fall eventually. Failing at first love is what usually happens.

First love is a chapter, an exciting one that opens the door to many more chapters. It’s beautiful and will never happen again. Thus it’s okay to reminisce.
