Description
Story I had written in 2011
I had written this for school, but I had to translate it to French which resulted into a 4/10
Foreword
Once upon a time it was a white December day, the 31th. That's the day when people make their new year's resolutions and a time when people are happy. They are hoping that everything will get better the new year that will come. Some wish to lose weight, others want to change their temper, some promise to be good, but everyone's wish is that their wish will come true.
But there is a boy. A boy with not mush. He only has the clothes he's wearing, a wooden home, some cupper coins in his pockets and his dad. That's enough for him. Why I start about this particular boy? Well, this boy wishes that all wishes in the world would come true.
He was cheerful as ever on this December day. Wishing people a good day and that their wishes would come true, hoping they would wish him the same. But the rich people with their top hats ignored his greets, but some of their wives looked at him and gave him a smile, even waved when their husband wasn't looking. The people who lived on the streets smiled at him and some began to scold and chase him away saying they would never have a good day. He never got his greetings back.
He got home and made his dad some hot coco. After that he went to his room and sat by the window. The sun was setting. He looked at all the pretty colours and enjoyed the view. He said by himself: "No one wished me a good day and no one wished that my wishes would come true… Now my dad will never get better."
It became night and the first star appeared. The boy opened his mouth and started to pray. To pray that his father would be better somehow, someday. He stood up. He checked his father, if he still was alive. He went to his father's bedroom door. He knocked and went in. His father asked him to stay with him, saying that he could hardly breathe like an elephant standing on his chest.
He heard knocking on the door. Like a wild one he stormed at the door. It was Charlotte. "Charlotte!", he said, "go fetch a doctor, please! Ask for Monsieur Duclair. Be fast! Father isn't going to make it." He went back upstairs. "Father, hang on. The doctor is coming." He took his father's hand. "Son, if I die, don't be unhappy. Everyone has a time and mine has come. Draw back the curtains, so I can see the stars." He did as his father told. The light of the stars fell like a bright sunshine in the room. His father tapped him on the shoulder. "You'll have a bright future. You'll have kids of your own and a sweet wife. I know you will." "And you'll live to see that, father." "I don't think so, my boy. Don't cry. Don't cry about your old fool of a father." "You'll live father, I wished and prayed you will get better." His father coughed. "Speak no more, father dear. It takes to mush energy." He gave his father some water, but it didn't get any better.
The clock stroke 12. The new year started. "Where is that doctor when you need him.", cried the boy. "The doctor can't fix this anymore.", coughed his father. "Hush, don't speak." "My son", coughed he, "may all your wishes come true." Then he died. His last breath to wish his son everything he ever wants. But what he couldn't get, was his father to live.
Ten minutes later the doctor and Charlotte ran into the room where the boy was crying over his father's body. Dr. Duclair tapped him on his shoulder and Charlotte hugged him. But he missed his father. And he hated that people didn't wished him his wishes. That was why his father couldn't get better and died. But he never stopped wishing people the best. Because he believed that you had to be polite and overcome the bad things, with the good things. He never forgot his father's last words and made them also his last words.
