Prologue

I am a shadow child.

Unwanted, shunned by the very two people who brought me into this world in the first place, because I am not the heir that they wished for. But that’s alright, because I don’t have any need for people who don’t need me in return. I’ve lived life my own way, and now I’ll step into the spotlight and claim it as my own.

I was trained to kill.

For years, I knew nothing besides protecting myself and follow order to destroy other’s lives. That was the only way to survive in the world that I was thrown into as a child. Now, my life is no different; follow orders, do your job, and you’ll be fine. Except this time, I’ve switched sides. And perhaps this time, the ending will be prettier than the last one.

I still remember when the world I had grown up in shattered into a thousand pieces.

Everything had been a lie; my parents weren’t normal in any sort of way. They were government agents, destroyed by the very people they had been sent after. And now, I am following right into their footsteps. But unlike them, I will survive.

I am a rebel.

I ran away from the stifling life I had been born into, from the domineering mother that tried to make me into a person I cannot be. The road hasn’t been easy; I learned that the hard way. But it’s made me much stronger than anyone could ever imagine. Becoming a martial art instructor’s adopted daughter was only the first step. Now, the world will see the real me.

I grew up privileged.

Compared, to the other members, my life was generally peaceful. Normal, actually, in nearly every sense possible. But that doesn’t make me any less ready for this than the others. No matter what, no one wants to be at the other end of the barrel when I’m holding the gun. Don’t be fooled by my smile, because a smile doesn’t mean I’m weak.

I grew up alone.

For as long as I can remember, my childhood consisted of nothing pleasant. I grew up in an orphanage, where every day was a new battle to survive for the next twenty four hours. But unlike the others, I never succumbed to the shadow of death that constantly hovered behind our backs as we starved day in and day out. I swore to survive, and I did, even when living on the streets was only slightly better than suffering in the orphanage. But I still lived through it, and now the world will see what I can do.

We are Siren, SM Entertainment’s newest girl group set to take the music world by a storm.

But we are also secret agents, the South Korean National Intelligence Service’s best team that has been trained specifically for this mission.
