Severed - angst sliceoflife - main story image

A A A A

It was heavy.  She felt suffocated, controlled, used.  Day after day, week after week, month after month.  These feelings would slowly slip away until they resurged even mightier than before.

They tore her apart.

At moments like these, a step into the kitchen was tempting.  A glimpse at the gleam upon the countertop burst forth endless possibilities to end it all now.  It was not always about her blood being shed.

It’s common knowledge that they only doing what they believe and claim is best for you.  But there is a fine line between guidance and control.  Between a reasonable king and an unreasonable dictator.  Between what is due and our personal lives.

Somewhere through the years the boundary had been trespassed and dispelled.  We are required to listen to them because they gave us life.  Brought us into this world.

But the unreasonable commands came as time went by.  Not being allowed to stay up when you had the next day off.  Not being able dress or style as you pleased.  It had to be how they wanted it to be.

And that’s when it became control.

Everything had to be approved by them.  When it was said, it had to be done, despite any objections.  Resistance was futile.

Screams and tears are what followed.  Endless tears that evoked pain and thoughts not to be spoken.  Of anger and sorrow and resentment because no one had spoken up; no one had attempted to intervene.  They had let her succumb to the clutches of a woman who knew naught of boundaries.  Who only knew how to manipulate and command.

There were two ways out.  To follow Lord Death, or leave.  To grasp that chance that was before her eyes.

And then they tried to take that away, she fought back.  Fought with what she had gained through the years, fueled by the knowledge that her childhood had been robbed of her, that the experiences that she ought to have had were stolen.  That they had always and will always desire that control, that power over her.

So when she stepped out that door on that fine summer day, she knew that all defiance had been worth the while.

She was building a future for herself, away from the tyrannous reign she had known all her life, and away from what she never wanted her children to experience.  And when they begged for her return, she would refuse.

Because that connection with them had been severed the moment she left, and there was no turning back now.  Not when she had at last tasted the glory of freedom.

Author's Note:

I got into a little skirmish with my mom and these emotions reappeared.  I'm just so frustrated with her unreasonable commands that I needed a way to express them and let them out.

There is probably a bit on inconsistency, but honestly I don't care.  This is an emotion-freeing fic.

The way you portrayed her feelings was absolutely perfect, this was wonderful!

I liked your story very much. I thought it was very spot-on with the way it feels to leave a home where you feel controlled, and I thought you captured the teen angst and melodrama of leaving precisely! Wonderful work, can't wait to read more (:
