1. What possible effects will the new learning landscape have on our present educational system?
There is never a purely positive or purely negative factor when it comes to change. As for the pros, it would ultimately mean easier, cheaper, and more accessible education for a wider target audience. Our educational system would adapt to this of course by changing to take advantage of the new technologies and the opportunities it present. But on the not so positive side, it would be possible that some would try to eliminate the need for teachers or the classroom as a whole through the use of online learning and other media. Although this could work for some, it would not be the case for all. There are many things that you can not really rely on technology.
2. What do you think is the most important role of teachers and students in technology integration into the education? Why?
The most important role of teacher in integrating technology into education is to regulate and guide the use of these technologies by the students. It is important the teacher has sufficient knowledge and mastery of the technology before they use it in the classroom. It is also the teacher's role to decide whether a certain material would be appropriate to the students basing on its level and contents.
The role of the students on the other hand is to use the technology responsibly to help in their studies and not make it as another hindrance and a source of procrastination or a way to cheat.
3. What do you think is another crucial role of teachers that is NOT mentioned in our readings/discussions? Why do you think it is important?
One crucial role of teachers that was not mentioned in our class is being your students' makeshift counselor. As teachers, we do not only hone skills and facilitate access of information. We are also our students' second parents and best friend. Sometimes your students will need someone to talk to about their problems in school and life in general. Although it is not part of your job description to solve these problems, it is the teacher's job to listen and show the student his options, or at least show that someone cares about what he or she has to say. Every teacher should be approachable to the students whether it be personally or online.
4. What do you feel and how do you prepare about the changing role that teachers and students will play in the evolving learning environment?
I am excited to see how the learning environment changes and evolves. I prepare myself by always being in the know about the new technologies and techniques for learning. I make sure that I am informed and well acquainted with these things so as not to be left behind. I try to research more and if possible try it out on my lab rats (which are my cousins and sister) just to see how I am fairing with it.
5. How would you balance tech-savvy students and those that are not?
You could easily balance tech-savvy students and those who are not bygiving them equal footing in the classroom in terms of access to technology. For example, if you are going to make them use a certain technology, make sire that you teach them how to use it. And when they do use it, it should be on class hours and inside the classroom where they have equal opportunity to access.
