All My Heart

My best friend, Olivia and I were walking to school after the Christmas holidays.
“Argh, why do we have to go to school for? It’s such a waste of time!” Olivia said frustrated.
“I know, I know. But this is our last year! Then we are free!” I said excitedly
“Natalie” she said to me worried while staring blankly ahead
“Yeah” I said looking at my phone, texting my other best friend Alex.
“Um, isn’t that Ryan?” she said unsure. Ryan was my ex-boyfriend. He was the biggest pig on the face of the Earth. He got drink one night when we 15 and tried to hitting me. He then proceeded to cheat on me with my sister’s best friend, Jacqueline. He was a jerk.
“ Um, yeah I think it is,” I said, my voice trembling. He came closer to me. I turned to walk in the other direction, but it was too late.
“Oh, um, hey Liv, uh, hey Nat, how’s going?” he said
“Good, um, it’s good. What about you Nat? You okay?” Liv replied
“Yeah, I’m okay” I said shyly. I was so scared of Ryan. But I knew that if anything happened, I could just call my best friend Alex. He was my best friend and lived two houses up from me and was my age-18. His parents were best friends with my parents so we have known each other since birth. He was only a day older than me.
“Um, well I’ll see you at school then. Bye guys” he said 
“See ya” Liv said
“Oh, uh, bye” I whispered
“Bye” he whispered in my ear and then ran off to school. It sent shivers down my spine. As much as I hated to admit it, I was still in love with Ryan. I hated myself for it though. He broke my heart to the point where it could not be fixed. But in the mess that pumps my blood, I still loved him. I was petrified of him, but loved him. Love is a messed up thing.

Olivia snapped me out of my daydream when we were at our lockers.
“When did we get here?” I asked confused
“Uh, just then. What’s with you today? You seem so out of it” she said
“Oh, I’m just tired” I said. I was lying. I wasn’t tired at all. I was just very confused about my feelings.
“Oh, okay” she half-smiled at me, “Look, here comes Alex” she said and pointed at him. Alex was the school hunk. He had chestnut brown hair with a blonde streak in his fringe. He had bright green eyes that every girl fell in love with. I had to admit, I had a crush on him.

“Hey guys” he said
“Hey!” I said, hugging him. He hugged me back twice as hard.
“Hey Liv” he said very enthusiastically. He hugged her very tight. I had to admit, I was pretty jealous.
“Hey Alex, what do you have next period?” I asked
“Uh, History, what about you?” he asked back
“Same!” I said excitedly. Turned out Alex and I had all the same classes together. It was going to be a good year. Or so I thought, but I’m getting ahead of myself. We walked to class leaving Liv to walk to English alone. Alex and I walked into History and I just about had a heart attack. Sitting in the back corner was Ryan. I hid behind Alex.
“Nat, it’s okay. He can’t hurt you. Not as long as I’m here anyway” he reassured me.
“O-okay” I half-whispered
“Well let’s go sit over there then” he said and pointed to the seats furthest away from Ryan. We sat down after greeting our teacher.

“Um, Nat, I need to tell you something” Alex whispered to me
“Yeah, what is it?” I asked, still looking at the teacher. Out of the corner of my eye, I could see Alex playing with the strings of his hoodie. He looked nervous.

“I, uh, I like someone” he said
“Oh, uh, I think I know who it is” I said. I felt sick. It was Olivia. It had to be. I see the way he looks at her, the way he hugs her.
