♖ Somnium ♖

Welcome to my story! I'm Tempester, but I also go by Rikucrafter. This is Somnium, my own story of modern fantasy, following a collection of characters as magic returns to their country.

The story is written like a television series, in episodes and seasons. Also, it is in an non-descriptive style. I tell you the who and what, you imagine the description and dialogue for yourself. There are flashbacks, too. There are seven scenes an episode, and if one begins with a date, it is a flashback scene,

Here is a small dictionary, to get you started:

 Somnium Dictionary 

Magic 

An elemental ability, drawn from Powers. Can be used by descendants of Powers no matter how far down. 

Power 

A child born on a 'Holy Day'; powers the city's magic until they are eighteen through energy emanating from within them. The city's Government traps Powers in the Somnium Asylum, a practice which began sixteen years before the story. 

Holy Day 

A day which, when born on, develops a chromosome mutation which makes someone a Power. (Five Holy Days: Feb 29, Mar 1, June 7, Sep 26, Nov 16) 

Novus Somnium 

A city, and capital of the country of Aeternam. Name means 'New Dreams'. 

Aeternam 

A country off the southeast coast of the UK. Thought to be the last place in the world where magic wasn't trapped, prior to the 1998 opening of the Asylum. Similar in size to Iceland, official language is English, and the name is Latin for 'Everlasting'. 

The Somnium Asylum 

The place where Powers are kept until they are 18, when they stop Powering. A thick, electrified synthetic metal stops magic from emanating out or being used within, but produces extreme heat and is expensive to make & run.

Nickey Fertaine – a Power, escapee of the Somnium Asylum, and cousin to Maya Firrick (Age 16)

Arianna Fertaine– a Power, Nickey’s twin, and escapee of the Somnium Asylum (Age 16)

Officer Maya Firrick – An officer of the Novus Somnium police, fights with a spear,

secretly a magician & former power (Age 25)

 -‘V’- – A Mysterious Magician of unknown ideals (Age ??)

Edmund Taverick – An Ally of V (Age 42)

Tristan Mendorne – A Councilman of Novus Somnium, Maya’s boyfriend of three years (Age 27)

 Letitia Cyrus – An unmarried elementary school teacher (Age 34)

Darcy Hedney – an elementary student and orphan (Age 11)

Mayor Charlie Neinford – Mayor of Novus Somnium, lives with a dark secret (Age 46)

 Mina Fukiyana – Novus Somnium’s Pop Princess, a magician using her magic for show, of Japanese descent (Age 20)

Kara Sorne –A Power trapped in the asylum, records life on her mini hairpin camera, and Julien’s

sister (Age 11)

Julien Anomara –A Postage driver, secretly spying on the police for the Aeternam International  Crime Union (Age 21)

                                The story of Somnium is set in our world, in the fictional country of Aeternam.
