Cindy walked down the strangely quiet hallway. She sensed that everyone was looking at her but every time she whipped her head to the side to check, her peers would pretend to be occupied with their lockers or they would start talking to one another. She hugged her books closer to her chest.
Brushing it off lightly, Cindy tried to convince herself that nothing was wrong. She found her locker and twirled in her locker combination all the while looking around for anything suspicious.
SPLASH!
Just as Cindy opened her locker door, a bucket of ice cold water poured down on her. She froze in surprise while the students around her snickered and high-fived each other. One boy even had the nerve to push his way to the front of the forming crowd and guffaw, "Hahaha!" He held his stomach, "You fell for that! Don't you know anything?! That's, like, the most basic prank!" He doubled over in laughter and Cindy frowned. No one in her previous school had the time to play any pranks.
The Homeroom bell rang and the crowd slowly dispersed. Not really affected by the mean joke, Cindy pulled out spare clothes from her locker and went to the the bathroom to change. Something like this was bound to happen someday, wasn't it?
She pushed open the bathroom door and was surprised to see Catherine and Mia, along with some other friends.
In the mirror, Mia raised her eyebrows at Cindy, daring her to say something. With a tight smile, Cindy entered one of the bathroom stalls and locked the door behind her. She slipped out of her wet clothes and tugged on her dry jeans and t-shirt.
She peeked out the crack between the stall door pondering if she should go out or not. Wouldn't it be really awkward? She watched as a girl with flaming red, curly hair puckered her lips in the mirror. Freckles decorated her nose and cheeks and she winked at herself. She dug through the bag in front of her and pulled out rainbow mascara. Cindy winced. Makeup...ew. Never once in her life had she used makeup.
The girl untwisted the mascara wand and brushed it over her eyelashes. Her face lit up and she squealed, jumping up and down. Her friend's eyes widened, "Kayla! Where'd you get that? It's so cool! Let me try!"
Kayla's tan friend rolled her eyes, "Seriously Zoey?" she scoffed. "For goodness's sake, when are you going to remember that her parents own a cosmetics company?" The girl pushed Zoey's head lightly in a scolding manner.
Zoey stuck her tongue out, "At least I didn't fail PreCal."
Kayla waved the mascara wand around, "Whatever, just take the stinking mascara and stop bickering with Alison."
Eagerly, Zoey grabbed for the wand and coated her eyelashes with the sticky substance. "Eep! It's soooo cool!"
Mia just blinked at them and Cindy could see Catherine leaning against the sink picking at her nails.
Finally, the bell rang, signalling the end of homeroom. In another minute or two, the first period bell would ring. The girls packed up their makeup bags and headed out in a single line behind Catherine.
Letting out a sigh she didn't know she was holding, Cindy rushed out of the bathroom and placed her wet clothes in her locker. She slung her backpack over her shoulder and made in into the classroom just in time.
When the teacher gave Cindy a warning look, her glasses slipped down her nose, giving her an old granny type of look. Cindy almost snickered out loud and had to bite the inside of her cheek to avoid earning herself a lunch detention.
She tried to sit down in her chair as quietly as possible, but a strange sound emitted from her chair. She jumped up and covered her face in mortification when she saw a whoopee cushion. This school was really immature and would take some getting used to.
For the rest of the day, Cindy was tormented by her classmates and made fun of.
-----------------
The final bell of the day rang and Cindy went to her locker. Not even batting an eyelash when she received snickers and smirks, she took her time emptying out her backpack and folding her old clothes into her bag.
Then she walked out of the school like nothing happened and everything was cool.
Catherine observed her from behind. She wasn't the least bit affected, from what she could see.
It's going to take some work to get under her skin, Catherine thought. She's still unfazed after what would have took another student down.
Sorry for the late update!
