Pulling open the door of the coffee shop, she ran her fingers through her dark hazelnut hair to calm herself. Taking in the scent of espresso and vanilla, she paused and glanced around the cafe to search for his familiar face. Seeing him at a table by the window, she ventured over and sat down. Noticing her presence, he smiled and greeted her. “So you’ve made it here.” His fingers circled around the cup of tea in front of him and he handed the cup to her. “It’s your favorite.” She smiled, taking the cup. “You didn’t have to. I can order for myself, you know.” He grinned sheepishly. “But I know you hate waiting in lines.” She pulled her scarf off of her neck and rested it on the table in front of her. Taking a sip of the tea, she leaned her chin on one hand. “So, what did you need my help with?” His face smoothed, the smile disappeared. “There’s….” Putting down her cup, she tilted her head and chuckled out of habit. The aching in her chest called for anything but a chuckle. “Is it a girl?” His cheeks reddened and he lowered his head, mumbling an nearly incoherent “yes”. Biting her bottom lip, forcing herself not to look upset, she looked at her best friend. “Then, confess to her already. She’s got to be great if she’s making my great best friend this distraught.” He looked up. “But what if she says no?” That’d be great. She pushed her thoughts away, clearing her throat. “Who would be crazy enough to say no to a guy like you. You’re perfect.” Perfect for me. She fixed her gaze to her cup of tea, swallowing the lump in her throat. She was always the tinkerbell to her Peter Pan. She just had to accept that he was meant for Wendy.
