A A A A

Welcome to plot.

I've noticed in my year and a half of fanfiction reading that many stories fail to have a strong plot.
There is a small inside joke in my English class which goes a little like this.

ahem

CONFLICT

DRIVES

THE

PLOT.

So yeah. The conflict is the gas for the plot engine.

No conflict, no plot.
No plot? No story.

How can I create an amazing plot oh great inspiration?
Well before we get there, let's break down what makes up your plot.

This is a plot diagram, very similar to the one used in my English class.

Plot is made up of about 6 things.
The Exposition (1)
The Initial Incident (2)
The Rising Actions (3)
The Climax (4)
The Falling Action (5)
The Resolution (6)

Have an explanation for each.

1) The exposition; The point where a story's setting is explained, who is in the story, etc.
2) The initial incident; Where the conflict starts. That one point that starts the problem.
3) The rising actions; The events that lead up to your climax of your plot. These are important events that contribute to the plot.
4) The climax; The turning point in your story, the highest point of the problem, where everything goes BOOM.
5) The falling actions; The events that lead down from the climax towards the resolution, helping things get solved.
6) The resolution; When the story's conflict is solved and everyone is happy. Unless it's a cliffhanger, then who knows...

A plot diagram looks a lot like a heartbeat on a hospital monitor, doesn't it.

hmmm.

A heart beat is always moving up and down and changing.

Your plot always has it's ups and downs, and things are changing to keep it interesting.

This is the end of Part 1 of plot. I'll be back soon for part 2.
Happy writing!

I really like your way of executing your lessons! I also have a really amazing English teacher that gave me the knowledge to write my own fanfiction, poetry, and essays. I found this helpful as well! By the way, congratulations on your feature!

WinnieStar  on says about chapter 6:
okay, this helps but one thing that also make a good story is to make sure it makes sense, not the plot line and stuff but the sentences and grammar. you should post something about it because some forget to edit their chapter or something. :) sorry if this sounds forcing you to write something about this.....

WinnieStar  on says about chapter 5:
