The morning was so gloomy and people were all dressed up in black. They came and go. Even the weather was raining. The neighbours and friends paid their visit for the condolence for the last time. Alana stood silently as the tears kept streamed down her face.
She's wearing a black blouse and long black pants. Willy stayed by her side since they arrived and was wearing black outfit too. He held the black umbrella for the two of them but mostly for Alana. He wanted to keep her away from the raindrops even if that means a drop.
A woman, who's wearing a black lacy dress stepped out from a very expensive car. Once she stepped on the ground, them people immediately gave out a way for her to walk. Who was that woman that they highly respect?
Alana didn't see her coming towards them. The woman, along with a guy who held out an umbrella for her tilted her head up high as she faced Alana. Then, out of the blue, she slapped Alana across her face.
Alana was startled so as Willy. "You're such a disgraceful granddaughter to Charmaine." She stated.
Alana didn't know how to react, she was too lost at words. She realized that woman as the sister of her grandma, Charlotte.
Charlotte is far from them. Her reputation, life and money, are so the opposite of Charmaine, Alana's grandma. Charlotte leave her family as she pursued after her wealth. Having a husband who's the minister of the country, she's so proud of eveything that she owned.
"To have someone like you must be a curse to my sister. Do you ever realized how much yo had burdened her? Have you ever noticed how hard she's making the living out of you? Do YOU?" she literally emphasized her and raised her voice.
"What a shame on you. And now you're getting pregnant of an illegitimate child." She raised her voice so loud that's more than enough for the others to hear. The loud gasped emitted from the other as they threw a disgusted look at Alana.
The thing that she feared the most had been revealed. What else could she say. Charlotte threw a cheque at her face as she says, "THIS is for Charmaine sakes. She had asked me to leave you a money. You should be grateful with it."
She said and was about to turn around to leave when Willy stopped her. "Pardon me to say this. Alana doesn't even needed this money."
Willy bravely took the cheque as he put it back into the old woman palm. "And you may take your leave now." That only earned a glared from Charlotte. Alana looked at him in shocked. This guy is really bold to say something at Charlotte when she herself can't.
Alana stood there as she lightly pulled his arm. "Wlly..."
Willy shook his head as he looked at her. "No, Alana. You don't need any sympathy from this type of cruel people. I promised you, didn't I?" He took her hand and intertwined it with his. All that she needed is someone to stand for her, to protect her from the cruel society.
The old woman huffed as she retreated back to her car. Not more than a minute, the car leave the scene zooming passed the cemetery place. Everyone saw this coming, even Alana herself, that they started to insult her.
"Disgusting!"
"Slut!"
"Whore!"
Alana shutted her eyes as tears trickled down her wet face. Willy can't stand it anymore. This society knows nothing about the real thing. Alana is innocent. He was the one that should be accuse not her, not even the unborn baby.
"She's innocent for your information. She has nothing to do with it. If you people came here to only insulted on her, that should be me. I was the one who cause this all disgraced problems." He said out loud, having the visitors that paying their last condolence attention.
Alana was amazed by his act that he has just stand up for her. She could feel her heart was pumping so fast. Like she's having an adrenaline rush. She couldn't believe her eyes. Willy wrapped one of his arm around her shoulder as he led them through the crowd and headed home. Not that he meant to be rude, but that was beyond his attention. He didn't want someone else being accused after what he did.
Along their way home, Willy was still fuming. Alana didn't realized where they had actualy heading to when she realized that it wasn't the way to his home. Willy concentrated on his driving as he awkwardly pushed the radio button on just so that there weren't any silent filled in the air.
* * * * *
When they arrived, Alana who was fast asleep immediately woke up when Willy turned off the car's engine. Willy turned to her, slightly alert that he had just awaken her. "Did I woke you up?"
She answered with a shook. Willy stroked her ashy brown hair then he leaned back against the seat. Alana watched his every movement. Willy saw at the corner of his eyes that she was watching him. He leaned at her seat as he lowered her seat so she can leaned back too.
He retreated back and leaned against the seat again. Alana took that as a motion for her to lean back too. She relaxed and breath in a very relaxing. She finally noticed it. Willy didn't brought her there for nothing. He had brought her to see the beautiful phenomenon of the mother nature. Something that she had never seen. She gaped in mesmerized.
"It's... beautiful." she complimenter in awed. Willy smiled. "It is." As beautiful as you. He held back to utter the words.
"This is where I'll ended up whenever I'm stressed. Because it gives me so many reason to stay calm." He confessed. He didn't know why but he felt like sharing her his little secret. His secret place that no one know. Not even Ian. Alana looked at him as she observed the man.
Yes, the MAN. Willy is now becoming a man. Because one, he's married. And two, he's the father of their child. The child that no one had ever thought of.
"I'm a mama's boy. Everything I did, my mom will be so proud of me. Even on the little things. I started school late because I didn't like my life being scheduled. I watched my older brother went to school and ended up doing his homework when in the afternoon after school. Billy was such a good son to be compared to me. My dad, always on his side. People said we look alike, so much. But to my opinion, he's always better than me. As a matter of fact, WAY better than me." As his eyes blinked while staring at the sunset.
Although he's staring at the sunset, he seemed so far away. Alana never know someone like him had went through a complicated life.
"Everytime I got scolded, I'll never retort back nor backfired them. Unlike Billy, he said his opinion out loud. On the other side, Ian's is the favourite of the family. Since he's born, he's such a peacemaker to the family." he chuckled.
"I remembered this one time when I got punished by dad for going home late after we played basketball. Ian was the one who helped me out of it." He smiled as he remembered his past. Then, he stayed silent and enjoyed the sunset. Alana finally saw a different side of him. Now she knows, that Willy also had experienced a past that wasn't that nice. Something that he had not intended to remember.
They drove back to home after that. Alana cancelled her plan on taking a bath when she feels that the weather had started to freeze again. Although there's water heater in Willy's bathroom, she still can feel the coldness once she stepped out of it after washing her feet.
Alana's stomach grumbled loudly. There's no way she would eat those instant food. She'd don't felt like eating them. Instead, Alana grabbed all the ingredients to make pasta from the fridge. At first, she took out the ingredient to make one serving but then she took another serving for him.
There's no other than the owner of the house. She sliced up the onions and put it into the frying pan. After that, Alana mixed the other ingredients together. It didn't took her that long to make the pasta.
Alana scooped the pasta into two plates. When she's done, she washed all the utensils that she had used. She then put two set of fork and spoon on each side of the plate on the table. Since there's no sign of Willy coming out from the room, Alana thought of calling him.
She headed straight to the bedroom. Willy was reading a book something with business written on the cover. He lowered the book to take a look of what had interrupted his reading. "Hey, urm... I made pasta... for you."
He blinked innocently at her. He repeated her words on his mind. Did she just said 'for you'? He contemplated.
Alana mistaken that as a 'no' since he didn't say anything. She turned around to leave but Willy was already standing, sauntered towards her. He then beamed, "Thank you. Come on, let's eat." Willy put both of his hands on her shoulders as if he was playing some train game that kids usually played.
He pulled out a chair for her, "Sit." Alana obeyed as she took her seat. Willy walked to another side of the dining table. He took his fork and spoon but halted when he saw her didn't budge a bit.
"Aren't you going to eat, Alana?" he questioned her. Alana flushed shade of pink. She almost knock her head for being a fool. She started to dig in because Alana can't wait any longer. Her tummy needed to fill in. Carelessly, she stuffed the pasta in to her mouth.
Another thing about Alana is that she didn't mind how stupid she'll look. Even when she's eating and that's the reason why Willy finds her beautiful. After all this time, it's not that because she wasn't a fan of his that made him extra wondered about her, it's because above all, she's the true beauty.
Just by watching her eating made him smiled. He could not imagined his day without her after this. Even the slightest thing of that girl completed him. And he realized, she's all he needed.
Thank you, Alana. He resumed back to his food and happily munched on his pasta.
"I miss the old bubbly Alana." He didn't know why but he suddenly blurted the unwanted question.
Alana abruptly stopped eating. She herself didn't expect this type of question. She could feel the tears started blurred her view. Slowly, a tear dropped.
Willy sat up straight, apprehensively. "I-I didn't meant it that way."
Alana shook her head, but another tear dropped out. Willy quickly went to her side. He took her face in his palm as she refused. Alana turned her head to the other way trying to hide her obvious tears.
"Alana, I'm sorry." He said honestly even when he's not wrong. Alana shook again as she pried his hands from her face. "I'm f-fine. It's just, my mood is quite fussy." She laughed dryly.
Willy didn't buy it. He still looked at her. Alana could feel his blazing eyes on her. Willy took no time as he hugged her. "I'm sorry..."
Alana ducked her face into his chest. He smelled like sandalwood, and yet so calmed. Alana needed a comfort after all the thing that had happened. She silently felt like being love again after she had lost her grandma. Soothingly, Willy rocked her side to side.
