remarks ;
John Dies at the End is a humorous horror novel by Jason Pargin under the name David Wong, which is also the name of the main protagonist of the book. It tells of Daviid and his friend John's story involving a drug called Soy Sauce that allows them to enter a new dimension wherein they can see spirits and eventually alienlike beings. It is narrated in a first person perspective and combines modern humor with elements of horror and an unreliable narrator, Kurosawa style. What I like about this story is that the language it uses is very modern and even if you know that the narrator is not really giving you the exact truth, you just bear with it because it is more entertaining that way. This book is most probably appropriate to to teenagers and even older audience due to some of the more mature themes. Pargin writes for Cracked.com and the humor in this book is very similar to the website's, which is also why I appreciated the book. I am an avid reader of the said website and Pargin's writing style is just so casual. It drags on halfway but it still delivers somehow at the end. Spoiler: John doesn't really die at the end.
