remarks ;
Cloud Atlas consists of six nested stories from the 19th century to a post apocalyptic future, linked by one reincarnating soul. According to Mitchell, it is about the universality of human nature; how individual prey on other individuals in different contexts. What is noteworthy about this work is its structure which contains interrupted but linked narratives, providing a "mirror" at the center to conclude all of the stories. Definitely, older children would be the ones to appreciate this book due to its length and unconventional structure. I really liked the non-chronological unfolding of events and I wish to emulate this skill later on as a writer. Compared to other books that follow different stories and timelines, I believe that Cloud Atlas tied up the stories neatly even if the scope was rather big and muddy.
