remarks ;
Xilef tells the story of a boy who has dyslexia and how he and his family were able to cope with it. It was written to create awareness of the condition to the children and teachers alike. I believe that the author is trying to convey that children with dyslexia can also learn how to read with the proper techniques and understanding of the condition. What is noteworthy about this book is that they presented the story in the perspective of the the child with dyslexia, making even the illustrations depict their different way of seeing things. The book is recomended for grades 4 to 6 but I believe that it is can be appropriate for the early grades too, since it is then that the children would start learning how to read and write. This story has moved me especially when I first read it. Compared to his other books(Batang Historyador series and Alamat ng Ampalaya), Augie Rivera has written Xilef in a way that's reminiscent of sci-fi but very close to reality.
