remarks ;
This graphic novel is the first installation of O'Malley's series that follows the life of twenty-three year old Canadian, Scott Pilgrim. In the first book, Scott is currently in between jobs and dating a cute high school girl but a girl in rolerblades turns his life upside down. This book was written by O'Malley after he was inspired by a Canadian band's song that has the same name as the graphic novel's protagonist. He wanted to create a hybrid between Japanese and American comics. It is noteworthy that the series was adapted into a film: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I believe that teens would be the ones who appreciate this graphic novel as they could well relate to the protagonist and his plights. As for the illustration, it was really in between Japanese and America styles which suits the theme well. Compared to other American published graphic novels, Scott Pilgrim stands out because it has a style of its own.
