remarks ;
Shel Silverstein is a terrible human being for making me cry every single time this book is told. As the title suggests, it is about a tree who keeps on giving and giving to a boy until nothing is left of her but a stump. Up to now, the book is still open to interpratation as to why it was written and what exactly is it trying to convey. And it is noteworthy for a children's book to have so many diverse interpretations(religious, parent-child, environmental, romantic, friendship among many others). What is clear though is that anyone and everyone can relate to one or both of the characters in this book. The simplistic illustrations makes you focus on just how sad (or beautiful, depending on your interpretation) the whole situation is. I can not reiterate more how many times this book made me cry. If this book, had a face, I would punch it. I would compare it to The Little Prince in such a way that it disguises itself as a children's book when it is actually for adults.
