This picture book follows the boy named Peter exploring his neighborhood after the first snowfall. According tho Keats the book was written and illustrated to have minority children of New york as central character in his stories. Peter later on appears in six other books by Keats, growing from the small child to a pre-adolecent boy in his book A Letter to the Army. The auther was trying to convey the wonder of a child's first snowfall. What is noteworthy about this book is that the author himself was not of color like people assumed him to be. I believe this book would be better appreciated by children who live in places that actually experience snow, unlike here in the Philippines. As I have a facination in collecting Caldecott awardee books, I find great enjoyment in studying Keats' style in illustration. I would compare this book to The Paperboy by Dav Pilkey, as it focuses on the general mood and illustration rather than the plot.
